Desertification "More than 1.5 billion people are directly dependent on land that is slowly being degraded and around 12 million hectares of land are lost every year to desertification and drought."  "Erosion, desertification, and pollution have become our lot. It is a weird form of suicide, for we are bleeding our planet to death."  -Gerald Durrell Desertification is known as the process by which natural or human causes have reduced the biological productivity of drylands.  This may be due to climate change, deforestation, overgrazing, political instability, poverty, and unsustainable irrigation practices.  An example is climactic changes that result in droughts which can reduce the biological productivity of ecosystems rapidly.  The main causes of desertification can be classified into two categories which are climatic variations and human activities.  Climatic variations include:  Climate change  Drought Moisture loss on a global level...

Ageing population refers to the change in the age composition of a population such that there is an increase in the proportion of older people.  The average or median age or of the citizens of a country increases due to a longer life expectancy of its citizens of a lower birth rate per year. The provision of healthcare, as well as the improvement in it due to advancements in technology, have lead to a longer life expectancy, leading to a rising ageing population. The increase in the aged population does provide some economic advantages.  Due to older people having higher accumulated savings than younger individuals, a large ageing population can result ...
